If Omniseal Solutions™ experience in Space were a movie, it would start with the American flag proudly placed on the moon, then the scene quickly moves forward through history ... Apollo days, Space Shuttle launches and most recent other successes like the Mars Rover Curiosity. In this "based on true events" movie, there are exciting flashbacks to take us back to where the story first began.

We are in California, in the late 50s - the race to space is tough, with the United States clearly behind. Rocket engines are under development by a small group of pioneers that face many new challenges such as the cryogenic temperatures of the fluids that they are experimenting as propellants. These temperature have a very bad effect on the seals’ materials that cannot last long enough to guarantee the propulsion system works properly as required. On top of this, since the fluids are highly ignitable, seals are not only supposed to endure but also meet very stringent criteria: almost no leakage is allowed!

Luckily, these visionary pioneers are not alone. Another group of pioneers, located also in California and at the starting point of their company development, believe in their vision, understand that these new engines can be successful, and take humans to space and the moon. With relentless passion and enthusiasm, they co-develop one of the currently most popular sealing brands: Omniseal RACO® spring-energized seals. Starting from a small company and especially thanks to its success in space, the former Furon and now Omniseal Solutions™ (part of Saint-Gobain) has become one of the leading companies in the sealing industry.
